lovel prattWhen I moved here in 1991 with my husband Boyd and our three oldest children, I was heartened by the welcome we received and awed by our experience of these islands. I discovered that the quality of life here comes from both the exceptional beauty and diversity of our natural environment and the generous and resourceful people who live, work and contribute to this wonderful community. So many of us make it a priority to care for this place and one another and to contribute to and participate in the many facets of island life. This has inspired my work and volunteer service over the past seventeen years.

My gratitude for the quality of life my family and I have enjoyed in this community is my motivation to serve on the San Juan County Council. I am committed to preserving and enhancing our islands' quality of life and our county's Vision Statement. I am well prepared to serve and represent the citizens of District 1 and all of San Juan County.

I will be an effective member of the San Juan County Council:

  • I am a strong team player, I work well in committee, and I will make decisions in the best interests of our community.
  • I will listen to your concerns and goals for our community and promote an inclusive public participation process. You can count on monthly meetings or forums throughout my term in office.
  • I believe that decisions should be made with plenty of public participation, and that the respectful engagement of people with varying views and interests promotes effective and responsive solutions.
  • I will commit to working at the regional and state level to address the challenges San Juan County faces - such as ferry transportation - that can only be solved with the active cooperation of our State Legislature. I will commit to going to Olympia when the legislature is in session at least one day a month, regardless of compensation, to work with our legislators on county issues that must be addressed at the state level.
  • I will ensure that your tax dollars are well utilized by representing your interests as the annual budget and other fiscal decisions are made by the council.

I see this campaign as an important opportunity to hear about your concerns and goals for our community. I will schedule monthly meetings during this campaign as an invitation to you to start a conversation that I plan to continue throughout my term in office. Please let me know if you would like to schedule a neighborhood meeting. I am happy to get together with any number of interested people. I will always make it a high priority to be available to my constituents.

Please plan to attend my first meetings scheduled for Thursday, June 26th at noon and Thursday July 24th at 5:15pm at the Public Library meeting room. Additional meetings will be posted to this website. Please come and visit me at my booth at the San Juan County Fair, August 13th - 16th.

I appreciate all the support and encouragement I have already received in this campaign and look forward to the opportunity to represent and serve the citizens of District 1 and all of San Juan County on the County Council.
